The removal of teeth that are difficult to reach inside the mouth requires surgical dental extraction. This might be the case if they have been shattered beneath the gum line or if they have not fully burst through the gum. To reach the tooth for extraction, an incision is made into the gum tissue that surrounds it. The tooth may often need to be fragmented to be extracted surgically. General anaesthesia is typically administered for this procedure.
